Manucript Submission

If you wish to submit a manuscript, please after following the instructions below carefully, send your manuscript to canalbq@spb.pt .

Instructions to Authors

A wide variety of contribution articles are considered for publication, including research papers, reviews, pedagogical applications, discussion papers or biochemistry-related history papers. Discussion papers are particularly welcome as long as the opinions presented are not totally speculative and rely on factual evidence.

Both Portuguese and English are accepted languages. Manuscript submission can be made by e-mail to canalbq@spb.pt. The latest issue can be read here.

Manuscript Format

Submission is composed of two documents, regardless of the manuscript type:

  1. A submission letter stating why the author(s) think Canal BQ is appropriate to publish the manuscript. The letter should include an explicit statement giving the Portuguese Biochemical Society the right to reproduce your manuscript in print or in digital support. All authors should sign this letter, or alternatively, the main author must clearly mention (s)he is acting on the behalf of all authors. The copyright is kept by the authors for other purposes.
  2. Manuscripts should be prepared in MS-Word and A4 pages with double spacing between the lines. Three cm margins all over the page are required. Embedded pictures are allowed for submission but should the manuscript be accepted for publication, graphics and pictures should be made available in individual files with adequate quality for printing (e.g. TIFF format).

In case the authors are using protected material from third parties, it is the authors’ duty to make sure that all the legal authorizations have been obtained.

The manuscript must include:

  1. Title page. Concise title, author(s) and synoptic title (up to 50 characters, including spaces).
  2. Abstract (except discussion papers). In a separate page and limited to no more than 250 words.
  3. References must be numbered sequentially and listed in the end of the manuscript with the format demanded for FEBS J, namely:

Figure legends should be gathered in a single section of the manuscripts, and placed before the reference list. When figures are embedded in the text file, they should be placed after the reference list. The final decision on publication or rejection of the manuscript rests with the Editorial Board, which will make use of the peer review system for advice.
